Lesson Plan #7 - Miles of Measurement

Grades: 6- 9
Time: 1 class period

Objective:

The student will learn to read a map and measure the distance from one reservation to another.

Materials:

Map
Measuring tape
Pencil
Paper

Procedure:

  1. Give each student a map and measuring tape
  2. Explain to the student about the map and using the key to find the distance from one reservation in Montana to another.
  3. Have the student explore with the map and the measuring tape using your Reservation as a starting guide.
  4. The student will then measure the distance from one reservation to another.
  5. Continue with the process.
  6. As soon as the student has mastered this concept move on to measuring the distances in neighboring states.
